The One Thing That Makes Outfits Work

Some outfits just work — like everything has fallen into place without much thought.

And others, even with good pieces, feel slightly off.

Either too structured and stiff or too relaxed and undone.

It’s easy to assume that the difference comes down to having better clothes, however it usually comes down to one simple thing : balance.

A well-balanced outfit has two elements:

  • something structured

  • something relaxed

I use this simple approach in my own wardrobe daily — choosing my outfit every morning is much easier, and not full of frustration!

Once you start using this method, your wardrobe becomes clear and enjoyable. You’re no longer trying to figure out if something works. You’re making small adjustments — adding structure, softening where needed — until everything feels balanced.

The Winter Style Edit is designed around this idea — a considered set of pieces that naturally create balance in your wardrobe.

Balance is one of the core principles I use when building a wardrobe, because when everything works together, you don’t need as many options — you just need the right ones.
